Panalpina Creates Collaborative Commerce Platform With Manhattan Associates

Manhattan’ Extended Enterprise Management solution provides Panalpina clients with improved trading partner connectivity and streamlined supply chain operations

PARIS and ATLANTA (December 08, 2008) –

Global supply chain optimisation provider Manhattan Associates (NASDAQ: MANH) today announced that Panalpina, one of the world’s leading providers of forwarding and logistics services, is rolling out Manhattan’s collaborative commerce solution, Extended Enterprise Management (EEM), as its standard system of choice for helping clients build collaborative trading ecosystems that streamline their extended supply chain operations.

Panalpina, already a user of Manhattan Associates’ Warehouse Management solution, has decades of forwarding and logistics experience and today offers a broad range of value adding supply chain services for leading international brands in the high-tech, telecom, automotive, healthcare and retail & fashion industries. In seeking to constantly enhance the strength of the relationships it has with its trading partners, the performance of its logistics operations, and the level of service it provides to its clients, Panalpina set its sights on adopting a new systems capability that would facilitate better connectivity and collaboration between partners and deliver better visibility of inventory and data flows throughout the supply chain.

“The progressive globalisation of our range of logistics services, which we provide via a network of 500 offices in 90 countries and through close ties with partners in another 60, has created a level of supply chain complexity that only an advanced supply chain collaboration tool can effectively manage,” comments Sandro Knecht, chief marketing & sales and supply chain management officer (CSO) at Panalpina. “Not only has the new Manhattan solution given Panalpina, our partners and our clients complete visibility of inventory movements and supply chain data, it has also given us the ability to find the right balance between standardised and customised workflows. The degree of configurability at our disposal is huge and allows us to tailor the solution to customers operating in specific industry verticals.”

Manhattan’s EEM solution is replacing a mix of incumbent in-house and off-the-shelf applications. The first implementations of the new solution were completed successfully during the summer for several of Panalpina’s multinational clients. The new system will now be deployed progressively to clients operating within all of Panalpina’s key industry verticals including high-tech/telecom, automotive, fashion and healthcare.

Henri Seroux, managing director of Manhattan Associates France, comments, “We’re seeing a fast-growing number of companies like Panalpina creating streamlined and collaborative supply chain ecosystems across their global operations by deploying a common supply chain solutions infrastructure. This kind of approach to supply chain technology deployment enables such companies to work in an integrated way with their trading partners and to compete collectively as a supply chain rather than individual entities. We’re very pleased with the way the implementation programme at Panalpina has gone so far and look forward to supporting the company as it rolls out our solutions to other sites and partners.”
